JK Asher is the girl who fell out of an Enid Blyton book.
Reading from age 2, she has consumed stories from around the world.
Her most precious childhood memory was being given a book on Japanese folklore, made of rice-paper. It was a gift from her 23 year old brother, Arjan Singh who became the family’s ‘Father’ after their father was tragically killed in a car accident.
Born in Colonial Malaya, four years before Independence, she has seen the rise and fall of Malaysia from democracy to neo-colonialism and nepotism, on the surging tide of Islamisation post 'September 11'.
She is domiciled in Malaysia but also lives in Australia with her husband, which she likens to Persephone’s perennial exile.
She is fluent in English, Malay and Punjabi.
Asher’s mantra is Philippians 4:8 “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.”
